چکیده

Breakthrough neurological manifestation during appropriate antituberculous therapy of miliary tuberculosis.
We report a 20-month-old girl with miliary pulmonary tuberculosis and normal neurological findings. While on treatment with isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol for 1 month, she developed weakness of the lower extremities without meningism or altered consciousness. A computerized tomogram revealed tuberculomas and basal arachnoiditis. The cerebrospinal fluid findings were compati...

A 30-year-old Vietnamese woman, about 19 weeks pregnant, was admitted for acute cerebral infarction with stenosis of the left middle cerebral artery (LMCA), tuberculous meningitis, and miliary tuberculosis. Treatment with heparin, quadruple anti-tuberculosis therapy, and dexamethasone afforded prompt symptomatic improvement. However, she delivered a stillbirth, after which there was recurrence ...
متن کاملCurrent results in treatment of tuberculous meningitis and miliary tuberculosis.
The purpose of this paper is to present the results of treatment of tuberculous meningitis in children who were admitted to the Children's Hospital, Sheffield, during 1954. Fifteen of these were admitted to the professorial unit, while five were under the care of Dr. T. Colver. The study is a direct continuation of earlier work (Illingworth and Lorber, 1951 ; Lorber, 1951; Lorber, 1954a, 1954b)...
متن کاملAcute pellagra in a child under treatment with isoniazid.
Toxic manifestations during isoniazid therapy are encountered in less than 5% of cases treated, and we have been able to trace little mention of them in children in the literature. The drug is now widely used in the treatment of tuberculosis and is universally prescribed as an adjuvant to streptomycin in tuberculous meningitis. The following case report concerns a child who developed pellagra l...
متن کاملIsoniazid in Primary Tuberculosis
Before the introduction of isoniazid it had been established that streptomycin was of little use in the treatment of primary tuberculosis. It did not prevent extension of the primary lesion within the lung (Lorber, 1950), and it did not prevent the occurrence of haematogenous spread or of meningitis during treatment. When isoniazid became available it seemed essential to establish its value, if...

From 1986-1989, sixteen patients suffering from TB meningitis aged 12-58, with CSF smear or culture positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis were hospitalized and treated with rifampin (RIF) , isoniazid (INH) , pyrazinamide (PZA) and ethambutol (ETB) for nine months. In all patients, ETB and PZA were withdrawn after three months and INH and RIF were continued for the next six months. 81.2 p...
